Ph. Karl Hahn & Co. was founded in 1905 by the current generation's great grandfather Philip Karl Hahn. During the first years buisness was mainly focused on cutting blue Sapphire's from Australia.

Between 1914-1945 the wars and the great depression had a tremendously negative impact on the gemstone industry.

After 1945 the company bounced back mainly as a supplier of rough gems from Brazil and Africa. A branch of the family had earlier emigrated to Brazil and was running mining operations producing Aquamarine, Amethyst, Rosequarz and other stones. This cooperation with Brazil was very helpful in the aftermath of the war.

Today Ph. Karl Hahn & Co. is still dealing in rough material such as Turquoise, Australian Chrysoprase, Tanzanite, Malachite and many more.

Today's owner Achim Hahn is however also a highly skilled lapidary craftsman who was trained by one of the leading cut stone manufacturers in Idar-Oberstein. So , almost naturally, Ph. Karl Hahn & Co. today supplies high quality cabouchons and facetted stones such as Tourmaline, Aqumarine, Natural Zircon's, Peridot, Spinel, Varieties of Garnet such as Rhodolite and Tsavorite, Amthyst/Citrine and also increasingly Sapphire's to traders, jewellery manufacturers and collectors.

The focus is on single stones, but there are considerations to also deal in calibrated stones in the future.
